Job Summary

The Architectural Association of Kenya wishes to recruit and Advocacy Officer to work with the Research and Advocacy Committee in delivering the Association’s policy and advocacy services and activities to promote sustainable growth of the built environment in Kenya.

Job Description/Requirements

The Advocacy Officer:

1. Works with relevant AAK Committees and staff to formulate, coordinate, and integrate policy and advocacy strategy with the communications strategy;
2. Takes responsibility in the management the the Association’s public campaigns campaigns and across various channels and that effectively describe describe and promote AAK and its activities;
3. Develops key advocacy related communications, including media briefs, policy briefs, social media posts and blogs;
4. Leads and support the development of linkages with media, research and academic institutions in the region and international, and facilitate collaboration in policy development and influence;
5. Develops and maintains key external relationships at the national and international level for the purposes of advocacy, fundraising and programme implementation.
6. Carries out additional responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time

Requirements for the position 

1. Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies or any built environment discipline from a recognized university
2. Additional training in project management, communications will be an added advantage
3. Must have at least 3 years’ relevant work experience in a similar role

1. Outstanding communication (speaking and writing), interpersonal, organizational, language and IT skills.
2. A confident, self-starter who displays initiative, creativity and strategic-thinking in all aspects of project development
3. Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, and planning skills.
