The types of T scales listed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in Kenya are:
T-Scale 5: This is the entry grade for primary school teachers who have a Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) minimum mean Grade C (Plain) or other recognized equivalent qualifications and a Primary Teacher Certificate (PTE) or its approved equivalent1.
T-Scale 6: This is a promotion grade for primary school teachers who have served as T-Scale 5 for a minimum period of three (3) years and have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process1.
T-Scale 7: This is a promotional grade and an entry to the administrative cadre for primary school teachers who have served as T-Scale 6 for a minimum period of three (3) years and demonstrate ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers1.
T-Scale 8: This is a promotional grade for administrators of primary institutions who have served as T-Scale 7 for a minimum period of three (3) years and are in charge of other teachers1.
T-Scale 9: This is a promotional grade for senior masters in secondary schools who have served as T-Scale 8 for a minimum period of three (3) years and have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process2.
T-Scale 10: This is a promotional grade for deputy principals in secondary schools who have served as T-Scale 9 for a minimum period of three (3) years and have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process2.
T-Scale 11: This is a promotional grade for principals in secondary schools who have served as T-Scale 10 for a minimum period of three (3) years and have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process2.
T-Scale 12: This is a promotional grade for senior principals in secondary schools who have served as T-Scale 11 for a minimum period of three (3) years and have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process2.
T-Scale 13: This is a promotional grade for chief principals in secondary schools who have served as T-Scale 12 for a minimum period of three (3) years and have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal process.
