Location: Nairobi with travel across Africa

Our client is is a private water operator providing 24/7 access to clean water in Sub-Saharan Africa. Using smart technology and local operational excellence, they install and maintain water systems serving the poorest communities sustainably under the funded Sustainable Water Access Program (SWAP).

Role Summary

The role requires a regionally experienced finance and administration manager to support the business expansion, with initial focus on Kenya and Tanzania but in due course the wider East Africa / Sub Saharan footprint. The position is based in Nairobi, with expectations of significant travel. The Finance and Administration Manager will be contracted on an annual, full-time basis.

Responsibilities

• Compliance with all company, in-country accounting and financial regulations 

• Oversight of monthly, quarterly and annual financial closings 

• Oversight of the monthly reconciliation of accounts payables, receivables and cash 

• Oversight of the monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts 

• Oversight of statutory monthly submissions and payments including payroll as required 

• Reviewing, analyzing, and reporting on the financial performance of the businesses 

• Ensuring accuracy of financial records

• Preparation of audit-ready books of accounts

• Oversight of the annual financial audit process to ensure accuracy and timely completion

• Engagement with in-country legal and tax authorities on all matters including amendments in sector-relevant regulations

• Oversight of all statutory annual returns for company, employees and directors

• Oversight of all administration functions across the regional organisation

• Oversight of all HR related functions across the regional organisation

• Preparation and analysis of financial performance reports for each of the business arms including detailed Operation and maintenance cost accounting

• Presenting findings to the board as well as relevant 3rd parties including government and associated regulator authorities

• Oversight of inventory controls and costing across the regional organisations

• Manage and develop any direct reports, including overseeing onboarding of any new team members. Use KPIs and targets to drive performance within the teams and appropriate guidance or training to under-performing team members

• Identify opportunities for improvement, using results and data available and allocate resources to this accordingly

• Liaise with other employees within the organization’s East Africa businesses to collaborate and ensure support from other areas

• Provide accurate reports to update the East Africa senior management team and use them for support in all areas above. Regularly review KPIs, including financial performance

• Work with Head of Finance and other global functional roles for support in all areas above

• Act as a key ambassador for the company in ways that strengthen its profile

Qualifications

• BSC in Accounting, Finance or relevant subject

• CPA or CMA preferred 

• Must have minimum of 5 years of finance and administration experience at a senior level in a commercial organization 

• Must demonstrate high levels of understanding of key accounting principles and Kenya specific regulations

• Ability to successfully communicate complex quantitative data to decision-makers

• The successful applicant should expect to work with large amounts of numerical data, handle multiple tasks with deadlines, and provide transparent and complete reports to management. They should have a firm grasp of accounting and financial practices and regulations and possess strong computer and verbal and written communication skills. 

• Must be fully competent with the Microsoft suite of software

• Must have advanced Microsoft Excel skills

• Must have advanced experience of internationally recognized accounting software 

• Must demonstrate good data analytical skills with attention to detail
