User Interface and User Experience (UI/UX) Designer – Full Time
Position Summary:
The User Interface and User Experience (UI/UX) Designer role will involve creating intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces for digital products, ensuring an exceptional user experience. The UI/UX Designer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the software development team lead, software developers, and business analysts, to understand user requirements and translate them into innovative design solutions. The UI/UX Designer will be responsible for wireframing, prototyping, and designing user interfaces for various platforms, such as websites, mobile applications, and software applications. Additionally, the UI/UX Designer will conduct user research, analyze user feedback, and iterate designs to optimize usability.
This position will be based in Nairobi.
Major Accountabilities:
The User Interface and User Experience (UI/UX) Designer will report to Software Development Team Lead.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Collaborate with the informatics team, particularly the Software Development Team Lead and Business Analyst to understand user needs and business requirements.
• Conduct user research, including interviews, surveys, and usability testing, to gain insights into user behaviour and preferences. This is to be done collaboratively alongside the Business Analyst.
• Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, and prototypes to effectively communicate design concepts and interactions.
• Design visually appealing user interfaces that are intuitive and easy to navigate, following established design guidelines and best practices.
• Develop and maintain design systems, style guides, and pattern libraries to ensure consistency across products.
• Iterate designs based on user feedback, analytics data, and usability testing results to improve overall user experience.
• Collaborate with software developers to ensure the successful implementation of designs, providing guidance and support during the development process.
• Stay updated with the latest UI/UX design trends, tools, and technologies, and apply them to enhance design processes and deliverables.
• Advocate for user-centred design principles and promote a culture of continuous improvement in the organization.
Education:
• BSc. Degree/ Diploma in Design, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:
• Proven experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing your design skills and process.
• Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma, or similar software.
• Solid understanding of user-centered design principles, usability, and interaction design.
• Familiarity with front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to effectively collaborate with software developers.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to translate user needs into intuitive design solutions.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of accessibility & inter-operability standards and best practices is a plus.
